Toe Thumb

My husband's left thumb resembles a toe. Cute, stubby, and with an extra wide nail, we lovingly call it Toe Thumb. Sometimes we tell people that Danny lost his thumb in a devastating accident and that the doctors suggested replacing it with one of his toes, since hands are often more useful in daily life than feet.

No one questions this.

Of course, with his unusual features, Toe Thumb does not fit into average size gloves or mittens. We have to search high and low for special clothes to fit him. Most stores do not carry Husky size gloves. But Toe Thumb does not seem to mind looking more like a toe than a thumb. He is confident and proud like my husband. His anthem is “Bringing Sexy Back.” Or at least that's what my husband tells me. Toe Thumb speaks to him apparently. Or maybe they enjoy some kind of toe-brain telepathic communication. It's hard to say.

Because he is special, Toe Thumb has become a sort of mini-legend in our family. Many stories have been woven around Toe Thumb's incredible and miraculous adventures. Starring roles in daytime soap operas, a lucrative career impersonating Michael Jackson, past lives as circus lion tamer, among others.

How does this relate to motherhood, organic living, or Cool Whip? It doesn't. Except that Toe Thumb has been pushing for us to rejoin our organic food co-op because he's very concerned about the pesticides in our Wal-Mart strawberries.

And Toe Thumb loves him some strawberries. Even if they taste a little like toe lint. But, of course, everything tastes a little like toe lint when you're a toe (impersonating a thumb or otherwise.)

Mami! My husband has finger toes, and that's exactly that we call them. It's like they are prehensile, they're so long, articulated, and, well, digital.

When I first started blogging I kept reading post about people with toe thumbs. Does anyone have finger toes?

I love that name! That's a sturdy name.

I need Toe Thumb to come with us berry picking this season, because I think all the farmers are posting organic signs but lying. And I don't believe the market (local natural food store or Trader Joe's) labels lately, either. I'm in this spiraling paranoia about toxins and flame retardants and BPA and casein and fertilizer and fecal contamination and bone char. Help me, Toe Thumb!

I happened on your comment on badmommy re: binki. I also have a boobaholic. And you worship CK, and I <3 you. Thanks for making me think twice about thinking about weaning... I'm a proponent of "let them all see it so they start to learn that it's not weird." Easy credo, hard to DO when a tot is trying to "Make nursies big" by baring both of them while chomping down, massaging the non-nursing breast, and declaring "SIDE" when one's drained and he's not yet full. Oh, and the acrobatics... and head turning (flipping). Can we start the "Bad Attachment Mommy Brigade?!"

This is funny! I know what that thumb looks like. I've never heard to it referred to as the "toe thumb". Terms of endearment, right!!

EW--that's funny. My son's feet as as wide as they are long. They've been like that since birth. I blame my dad. His feet are the same as Nino's. Only a lot hairier.

My husband has super large feet, which my son definitely inherited. I can already wear my son's socks and he is 6!

Hot Cross Mum--Well...looks like Toe Thumb has lots of long lost relatives. You know we should organize a family reunion or something.

It's okay, Tracie. Even hobbits need love. Besides I think hobbit toes are kind of sexy. In a hobbity Lord of the Rings kind of way.

Yikes - sounds alarming! We have a webbed toe in our household - yes you heard right, a webbed toe. And I shall leave it at that!

I'm not copying Nancy C (even though I adore her) but I have hobbit feet too. Hubs would not dare refer to them as such but it is true. I wear socks continuously. Even in the summer.

Laura, finger toes? That's funny. I'd like to see some of those. Maybe it's Toe Thumb's lost family?

LOL, Nancy! Hobbit feet? Seriously. You know if my husband had a blog he would definitely write about my fungus toe. Yep. I have one toe that has a little bitty problem. Okay, maybe it's a big problem. But I just polish it up and no knows knows the difference. (Until now....ooops.)

Much to my dismay, my husband refers to my feet as "hobbit feet." Sometimes, he'll call me "Bilbo Bagggins." This is quite the turn-on, as you can imagine. I love the varied adventures and careers of Toe Thumb.

That is hilarious! Especially when you said, "No one questions this" I have heard of finger toes, but never toe thumb!!

No toe thumb for the kiddos:) That was one of the first things I checked for after they were born, though.

Did your children inherit the toe thumb too?
