Electric Eels

Below is a story that Nino wrote and illustrated when he was four entitled “Electric Eels.” This was before Diego was old enough to make it impossible to do any and all craft projects without complete and total destruction of our home. Nino wrote a lot of stories during this time. Most of them seem to have endings of the apocalyptic sort. Do you think this has any implications on my mothering skills? Anyway, here it is. Despite it's ominous ending, I still think it's really cute.

*****************************************************************************

Once upon a time, there were electric eels.

And this is what they said in their electric eel language: “Yjbnxlogghyfdfddeegfdggedfsgggfgajhhu4jhfitti6uji.”

The electric eels were mean and had mean powers. They ate people.

They shot lava at people.

They shot green fire at people.

They shot pink fire at people.

They shot mean dinosaurs at people.

The people said, “What mean eels!” The End.

Ooooh....This post reminds me of what I did when each boy was 5. I had them dictate a SuperHero story to me, then they drew the pictures to go along with it. We then took the pages together to our town CopyShop and had them bound and laminated, complete with stellar book cover!!! They each had me read and read and reread again what became their favorite bedtime book. Complete with proud cover and their name on the bottom. We have "Ice Cream Man conquers the Universe" by Alec, and "The Great Alligator Boy and his Brothers Take Over the Swamp" by Xavier, and "Dongor and His Brothers Beat all the Mean Guys" by Auggie. I treasure these.

Those People know mean when they see it. Also, I will never look at the eel living at the N.E. Aquarium the same way again. Perhaps I shall just never look at it again, EVER. If I am to learn anything from Nico and his delightful (seriously) story, it's to Proceed with Caution.

I love kid stories! I have a similar scenario I should repost involving Thomas and the Island of Sodor. It's very apocalyptic as well...

I love that story SO much. I think it needs an illustrator. And my four-year old is also obsessed with shooting things at other things, despite the fact he doesn't even know the word "gun." Thanks for your recent comments - somehow they always manage to make my day. You're a superstar. Peryl

It's not you. It's them. Son of Thor loves absolute destruction. Almost every single piece of writing has some form of combat in it. He was struggling with the climatic zones in Italy and he came up with the idea of contrasting the norm with the disastrous atypical/exaggeration. Bloodthirsty little ..thing. It's not finished, but so far it has made the subject a lot more memorable (and attractive) for him ....... while giving me nightmares, convinced I'm going to wake up one night to find my house in transit or under water. http://homeeducationshowcase.blogspot.com/

He's gifted and talented for sure. By the way, I'm not a fan of swimming in any water that is not pool, and your son's essay explains why.

He's cool. At least the eel was not named "Mommy". LOL. Ansley has been doing some creative writing recently. I use to think she was the artist in the bunch, but she is very talented in expressing herself through writing. Her stories kinda suck you in and put you right in the middle. Diego is just being creative too mama! Dontcha know the biggest messes are the best masterpieces! You better watch out Nino might be after your job! LOL

aww, that is cute! I can't wait for baby girl to start writing. It doesn't seem apocalyptic though, just a boy and his imagination. :)
